A fourth generation family business.
In 1900 my grandmother started a florist shop on the Warwick Road, Sparkbrook, Birmingham. Later a second florist shop was opened a few miles away on the Stratford Road, Sparkhill, where seeds, plants and garden sundries were also sold. My grandmother’s interest in horticulture came from her father, who started the horticultural business selling chrysanthemum plants from his back garden in 1881.
After my grandmother retired, my father continued to run the business. In 1952 he purchased a nursery on Solihull Road, Shirley, Solihull. The nursery supplied plants and cut flowers to the shops.
After the introduction of double yellow lines along the Warwick and Stratford roads trade inevitable dropped and the shops were sold. I joined my father in the family business in 1962 and the nursery was slowly changed into a Garden Centre.
Both my grandmother and father passed away in 1978 and I have continued to develop the Garden Centre. In 1993 a field with a greenhouse was purchased in the Vale of Evesham which has been developed and now produces the majority of all the plants, trees and shrubs that we sell each year.

Today
Today the Centre has developed into a gardeners Garden Centre, with an emphasis on supplying the items that other centres don’t. With the majority of our Plants, Trees and Shrubs being grown at our own nursery we have complete control over the range of plants grown, quality and we are able to keep prices at an acceptable level.
The business is environmentally aware, being one of the first Centres to offer a pot recycling scheme where customers return pots and collect our unwanted pots. Surplus plastics pots etc., polythene, paper and card are baled for recycling.
The water we use is from our own well. Peat Free composts are also stocked amongst our wide range of Composts and Barks.
